MELAGE

Introduction

MELAGE is a neuroimaging software developed for the visualization of medical images, both Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs). Specially it has been prepared for neuroimaging of newborns, it is a versatile platform that allows the visualization of many types of medical images.

It allows to load two, three and four dimensional images of both techniques and in the case of 3D images it allows the simultaneous visualization of the three orthogonal planes which facilitates the localization of the regions of interest. It has been developed in Python with a user-friendly interface for healthcare personnel.

Thanks to Artificial Intelligence and deep learning methods, MELAGE has tools to estimate volumes of different regions of interest in both images. Moreover, it allows to perform linear, area and volumetric measurements in a very intuitive and easy way, being able to instantly see the segmented region in a new tab.

Another novel development is the possibility of visualizing Ultrasound and MRI in the same tab, oriented in a similar way, which can facilitate the diagnostic approach of clinicians by obtaining information from two complementary techniques.

Impacts

This software, designed with clinicians in mind, is a tool that, when made available to clinicians, facilitates the analysis of medical images by the clinician by having an intuitive and simple user interface.

It facilitates the automatic measurement of structures of interest for the clinicians and researchers, which optimizes image interpretation and can result in improved clinical care.

Available platforms

The most versatile version can be easily installed on any PC through an executable (.exe) and is ready for use. We continue working to implement new utilities and tools to facilitate the clinician’s work and also researchers in the field.

It also available in LINUX (UBUNTU) platform.
