MELAGE

About US

MELAGE was developed within the Perinatal Brain Damage group (INIBICA CO-20 https://inibica.es/co20-dano-cerebral-perinatal/ y UCA https://produccioncientifica.uca.es/grupos/34795/detalle ), where advanced neuroimaging techniques such as 3D brain ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are the main tools for the study of brain maturation and brain injury in the newborn.

To enhance the neuroimage analysis of these neonates, the creation of MELAGE emerged through approximately three years of continuous collaboration between medical doctors and a postdoctoral researcher (https://bahramjafrasteh.github.io/) within the group.

The primary contributors behind MELAGE include:

  • Bahram Jafrasteh, a machine learning engineer specializing in probabilistic machine learning and deep learning. He pursued his studies at Isfahan University of Technology and Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). Joining the group in February 2021 as a postdoctoral researcher at INiBICA, Bahram took the lead in the development of MELAGE under the expert guidance and supervision of the principal investigators within the group. He is actively participating in numerous regional, national, and international projects. He is also supervisor of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Ph.D. student at INiBICA.
  • Simón P. Lubián López, a Medical Doctor specialized in Pediatrics, currently serves as the Head of the Pediatrics Department at University Hospital Puerta del Mar in Cádiz, Spain. Holding the position of Co-Principal Investigator for the “Perinatal brain damage” group, he actively contributes as principal investigator and collaborative researcher across multiple externally funded research projects. Additionally, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Cadiz and plays a foundational role as a trustee for the Nene Foundation, dedicated to the advancement of neonatal neurology.
  • Isabel Benavente Fernánde, a Medical Doctor specialized in Pediatrics, dedicates her clinical efforts to the Neonatal Unit at Hospital Puerta del Mar in Cádiz, Spain. Concurrently, she holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Cadiz and holds a foundational role as a trustee of the Nene Foundation. Holding the position of Co-Principal Investigator for the “Perinatal brain damage” group, she actively contributes as principal investigator and collaborative researcher across multiple externally funded research projects.
